According to Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways plans to keep only five of its five Airbus A380s when it emerges from the Covid-19 crisis.
Speaking at a live CAPA event today, Mr Albert highlighted the economic benefits and thus the environmental impact of the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 in Worldwood compared to Airbus.
"Even when we operate [our 380 aircraft], we will run only half of what we have," Al Baker said. "So if you are interested in buying something for yourself, I will sell [to you]."
Regarding the A380s it plans to keep, Al Baker reiterated that Qatar Airways has no plans to bring them back into service in the future amid growing demand for travel. By air, which is expected to take years.
In July 2020, Qatar Airways released an analysis showing that its A380 emits 95% more carbon dioxide per hour on Melbourne, New York and Toronto than its A350, an average of 80. % More than all services.
"The [A350] and [787] are the most efficient aircraft in terms of emissions, especially the A350-1000," Albert said. We never expected this aircraft to be as efficient as it is today.
He described the A380 as one of the worst reconnaissance aircraft to fly today.
Cirium navy data show that, among other types, Qatar Airways has 33 A33-900, 19 A350-1000, 30 787-8 and 787-9 in 7 services, with 2350-900 and 10 A380 storage.
There were also prominent orders for 23 A350-1000 and an approximate number of 787-9, according to the data.
